What are the dangers of excessive iron content in water?

Iron is an indispensable trace element for the human body. Iron deficiency in the human body will lead to iron deficiency anemia and other diseases, which directly affect the health of the body. The iron needed by the human body mainly comes from food and drinking water. The water contains an appropriate amount of iron, which is beneficial and harmless to the human body; however, if the human body takes in excessive iron for a long time, it is also harmful to the human body. According to the measurement, when the iron content in the water is 0.5mg/L, the chroma can reach more than 30 degrees, and when it reaches 1.0mg/L, not only the chroma will increase, but also there will be obvious metallic taste. If the concentration exceeds a certain limit, a reddish-brown precipitate will be produced. In daily life, it can leave yellow spots on white fabrics, water containers, and sanitary utensils. When used in textile, printing and dyeing, knitting, papermaking and other industries, it will even affect product quality. According to research by scientists from the United States and Finland, it has been proved that too much iron in the human body has an impact on the heart, and it is even more dangerous than cholesterol. Therefore, high iron water must be purified before drinking. In clear natural groundwater, iron is mainly dissolved ferrous ions. When the groundwater is pumped and the ground comes into contact with the air, the iron-containing groundwater is no longer clear and transparent and becomes 'yellow soup'. This is mainly due to the oxidation of divalent iron ions in groundwater by oxygen in the air to produce orange-yellow iron hydroxide Fe(OH) precipitates (4Fe+02+l0H20=4Fe(OH)3+8H). The state stipulates that the iron ion content in drinking water should be ≤0.3 mg/L. When the iron content in the water is greater than 0.3 mg/L, the water will become turbid, and when it exceeds 1 mg/L, the water will have an iron smell; when boilers, pressure vessels and other equipment contain When water with high iron content is used as a medium, it often causes pollution and poisoning of ion exchange equipment in softening equipment, and hard brown iron scale on pressure equipment, resulting in deformation and pipe burst accidents, so it is very important to remove iron from iron-containing water quality.
